Health Office Procedures Here’s a quick reminder to parents regarding the procedures in the Health Office. A student must have a pass in order to go to the Health Office. If a student is not feeling well, the Health Clerk will take his or her temperature and ask about symptoms or ailments. With a fever or other verifiable illness, the parent or guardian is called to pick up the student. If the parent or guardian cannot be reached, the other emergency contact numbers are called. Students who are sent home with a fever must be fever free for twenty-four hours before they may return to school. If a student does not have a fever or an outward sign of illness, they are allowed to rest in the Health Office for ten minutes, after which the Health Clerk will reevaluate his or her condition. If the student wants to go home, the office staff attempts to reach the parent or guardian. If the parent or guardian is not reached within twenty minutes and the student is not in distress, the student is asked to return to class until school personnel hear from the parent/guardian. Upon contact with the parent/guardian, it is their decision whether to pick up the student or have the student remain in class. Students who are not in distress may not rest/remain in the Health Office for extended periods of time. We encourage all families to make sure that their telephone numbers and those of their emergency contacts on file with the school are correct and updated. The Health Office policies are designed to efficiently meet the health needs of our students while promoting the importance of students being present in their classes during instructional time.
