LCHS 7/8 Extracurricular Activities/Sports HOMEWORK CLUB is open to all 7/8 students after school from 2:45pm to 3:45pm twice a week. Every Monday, meet in room 731 and on Wednesday, meet in room 714. This is not a tutoring session but it does provide supervised location for students to get their homework done. The parents' meeting for the 7/8 CHORUS and the Men's Ensemble for grades 7-12 was held on Monday September 14th. For further information at this point, please contact Choral Director Jeff Brookey at JBrookey@lcusd.net or parent rep Sue Wright at wrightsue@sbcglobal.net. 7/8 GIRL'S LACROSSE CLUB will be playing on Oakgrove Field 3:00-5:00 Monday and Wednesday starting September 14th and going through Thanksgiving break. Everyone is welcome. No experience is necessary. Come ready to play in appropriate attire and bring water. Lacross sticks and eyewear will be loaned on a first-come first-serve basis. Please bring $3.00 for a mouthpiece or purchase one at Sports Chalet. (It must be a solid color. NOT CLEAR.) If you have your own stick there is a basket outside the principal's office to leave your stick during the day. The Club is planning on playing a few games against other clubs this year. If you have any questions, please contact Coach Dodson at lclacrosse@gmail.com. MATHCOUNTS is a math club for 7th and 8th graders which will be preparing for a regional competition in late February. The group meets every Tuesday at lunch and Friday mornings at 7:15am in room 620. For more information read the MathCounts flyer. You can also visit the Math Counts website at www.mathcounts.org. To sign up please see your counselor. LUNCHTIME ACTIVITIES Checkers, chess and board games are being played at lunch on Fridays in room 734. All 7/8 students are invited to bring their lunches and join in the fun. TURKEY BOWL The Turkey Bowl, scheduled this year for November 20th, is a fun and friendly competition between Small Schools. In the morning, Small Schools One and Two play flag football against each other, and in the afternoon, Small Schools Three and Four compete against each other. Students interested in playing, cheer leading, and/or decorating the bleachers will sign up with P.E. teachers. More information will be made available in physical education classes and through P.A. announcements in November. YARTs are after-school classes offered by 7/8 and the Canada Crescenta YMCA at LCHS. Fall 2009 there is a Cartooning class and a Knitting class on offer. The deadline for applying for the cartooning class is September 25th. For more information please read the YArts flyer.
